Through the provision of scholarship opportunities for qualifying Ph.D. and doctoral recipients, the Harvard University Academy Scholarship for International Students is a program designed to aid international students from all around the world in furthering their studies.
The Academy Scholarship program is designed for students who want to apply to the doctorate and Ph.D. programs at Harvard University. The goal of the scholarship program is to support academic success by rewarding aptitude and commitment by providing funding to deserving applicants studying the social sciences or law.
The applicants for this program must be based outside of the United States or Canada, have a strong command of the English language, and exhibit a love for transnational law, international relations, and cross-cultural awareness.
Since its inception, the Academy Scholarship program has encouraged candidates who live outside the United States to conduct more research and study in the fields of international relations, law, politics, and the social sciences.
A two-year postdoctoral fellowship is awarded to the chosen scholars, which covers the cost of their tuition at the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies in Cambridge, Massachusetts. For their research projects and living expenses while attending the academy, they will receive substantial funding.
Harvard University Academy Scholarship Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must fulfill the requirements listed below in order to be eligible for the Harvard University Academy Scholarship for International Students.
- Social science or legal candidates must have earned their degrees within the previous four years of the application date.
- Non-US citizens who want to study international relations, law, or cross-cultural awareness at Harvard University must also have a strong command of the English language.
- Students without US citizenship or legal permanent resident status, may also apply for this scholarship.
- The applicant must have a strong academic record, be devoted to attending Harvard University, and have a bright future in research.
- Candidates must have recently earned a doctorate in law or the social sciences.
Candidates for the Ph.D. degree who have completed their academy training and possess the writing skills necessary to become Academy Scholars are eligible for the scholarship program. In terms of the application date, those who have completed their studies are only eligible to apply three years after finishing their Ph.D. program.
Candidates that are chosen before obtaining a Ph.D. will get a yearly salary of $35,000. The stipends are in addition to the scholars’ travel and lodging costs while they are studying at Harvard University. Additionally, students who have not completed their Ph.D. programs will be eligible to earn $70,000 for research project funding when they enroll in this program.
Interested candidates must submit an online application along with copies of their cover letter, CV with a list of publications, research plan, Ph.D. transcript, and three letters of recommendation in order to be considered for this scholarship.
Before the deadline of October 1st, the letters must be uploaded online and sent to the “selection committee.” Additionally, copies of the applicant’s letters of recommendation are required if they aren’t any longer Ph.D. candidates.
